The botanical name of this succulent is *Echeveria shaviana* 'Curly Locks'. Synonyms often used include Mexican echeveria or Mexican hens and chicks. In German, it is known as Echeverie. The succulent belongs to the genus *Echeveria*, which is part of the Crassulaceae family. This succulent is native to Mexico.
Echeveria shaviana is green to pink with a rosette-shaped growth habit. The flower is a strong pink to orange. It forms during the flowering period from summer to autumn. You will receive a plant in a 5.5cm pot, with a total height of pot and plant of about 6cm. The maximum height it can reach is 20cm.
Caring for Echeveria shaviana is relatively easy. A mixture of cactus and succulent soil is suitable as a substrate. Echeveria shaviana does not tolerate waterlogging, so you should ensure good drainage and allow the substrate to dry out before watering again. Generally, this succulent tolerates too little water rather than too much. Fertilizing is possible once a month, or every four weeks.
This succulent's light requirement is met in a sunny location. This means a south-facing window with direct sunlight is best. The optimal temperature is between 20°C and 30°C. Echeveria shaviana can spend the summer outdoors after gradually acclimating it to direct sun. In winter, the temperature should be around 10°C. Furthermore, fertilization is stopped and watering is reduced. However, this succulent is not suitable for the garden.
This succulent can be propagated by seeds, but also by leaf and stem cuttings. Echeveria shaviana can be poisonous; we cannot guarantee its compatibility with animals.
