Description
Description
Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora is also known by its German name "Air Clove". It belongs to the family of bromeliads and originally comes from Guatemala.
Appearance
The Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora has green leaves arranged in a rosette. When the Tillandsia blooms, the central leaves turn a bright red and small blue-violet flowers appear; however, it can take several years before it begins to bloom.
Care
Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora needs a bright, sunny, yet partially shaded location and is not suitable for the garden. It's best to submerge the Tillandsia in rainwater once a week, immersing the entire plant, and then allow it to dry. Ensure that no water remains in the leaf rosette and add suitable fertilizer every other time in summer. Another way to water the Tillandsia is to spray it with water several times a week. If rainwater is not available, either let tap water sit in a bowl overnight or mix it with distilled water; this prevents calcification of the Tillandsia. You can tell if Tillandsias are thirsty by the fact that the leaves curl up when they become too dry.
Name: Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora, also known as Tillandsia bradeana, Tillandsia cryptantha, Tillandsia flammea.
Family: Bromeliaceae
Origin: The Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora originally comes from Guatemala.
Appearance
Color: Green leaves that turn red under a lot of sunlight.
Flowering: The inner leaves of the rosette-shaped Tillandsia turn a bright red as it flowers, small blue-violet flowers appear in the center, and stamens protrude.
Size: Ø 10-15cm; Height: 10-12cm
Care
Location: Tillandsia brachycaulos var. multiflora needs a bright, semi-shaded location. It is not suitable for the garden and should always be kept indoors.
Watering: It is best to submerge the Tillandsia in rainwater once a week and then let it dry again, or spray it with water several times a week. Make sure that water never collects in the leaf rosette.
Substrate: Tillandsias should not be placed in moist soil; mineral substrate, sand, or even no substrate is more suitable.
Propagation: Tillandsias can be propagated through pollination and seed formation. Since they are not self-pollinating, pollen from another plant of the same species must be transferred using a fine brush. The formation of pups is the second propagation method for Tillandsias. Tillandsias often form pups, i.e., new plants, on the stem of the mother plant; this is especially necessary because the mother plant dies after flowering.
